Specialist care for gum disease, gum recession, and bone loss.

If your dentist mentioned deep pockets, bone loss, or a referral to a specialist, Dr. Tala Ebrahimian will tell you what is actually happening and what your options are.

When Gum Symptoms

Need a Specialist

You may have several of these, or none. A full periodontal exam is the only way to know how far it has progressed.

Gum and Bone Care Is Its Own Specialty

Dr. Tala Ebrahimian

Periodontist & Implant Specialist

A general dentist treats the whole mouth. A periodontist trains for several additional years on one part of it — the gums and the bone holding your teeth in place. Once gum disease moves past the surface, or once bone has been lost, that is the training the case needs. At Smile Lab your periodontist works down the hall from your restorative dentist and oral surgeon, so your plan does not get handed between offices.

Gum and Bone Treatment at Smile Lab

Dr. Tala also places dental implants and prepares the surgical site. Your final crown is completed by a Smile Lab restorative dentist.
Rebuilds gum tissue that has receded and covers exposed roots. It reduces sensitivity and protects the root from decay.
Rebuilds bone lost to gum disease, infection, or a missing tooth. The graft acts as a scaffold your body builds on over the following months.
Cleans out deep pockets and reshapes the bone around the tooth so the gum can fit closely again. Used when deep cleaning alone has not resolved the pockets.
Adjusts the gum, and sometimes a small amount of bone, to expose more of a tooth. Used when a crown or filling needs more surface to hold onto.
Restores bone width, height, or sinus clearance in areas where an implant is planned. Often done as a separate step before the implant.
When a tooth cannot be saved, it is removed with as little disruption to the surrounding bone as possible, and the site is grafted so your options stay open.

What Patients Say

Common Periodontist Questions

1. Do I need a referral from my dentist?

No. You can book directly. If you were referred, bring any recent X-rays and we will coordinate with your dentist.

We numb the area before any treatment, and our team is experienced with patients who feel anxious. If that is a concern, ask about sedation options at your consultation.
Most plans involve more than one visit, depending on how many areas are treated. You will have the full schedule before you start.
We review your medications before any procedure. Never stop or change a medication on your own — we will guide you and coordinate with your physician when appropriate.
Smile Lab accepts PPO dental insurance, and depending on your plan, benefits may cover part of eligible periodontal care. We review your anticipated benefits and give you an estimate before treatment begins. Final coverage is determined by your plan and is not guaranteed.
Bring that plan in. There is often more than one way to approach a case, and a second opinion from a specialist costs you a single appointment.
