Dental Implant Process

Here at Smile Lab in Union Square, Manhattan, we take every precaution to ensure the utmost safety of our patients by carefully devising a treatment plan according to their individual needs. Here’s a look into Dr. Cameron’s detailed and precise dental implant procedure.

Consulting and Treatment Planning

We begin by conducting a full, thorough examination of your mouth to verify if you’re eligible for an implant. The examination includes free X-rays and 3D imaging. A personalized treatment plan is then devised and explained to the patient in full detail.

The titanium implant is then surgically placed on your jawbone to replace your existing tooth’s roots.
The patient is prescribed a healing period of at least two months to give the titanium post time to fuse with the jawbone completely and gain stability.
Once Dr. Cameron is convinced that the titanium post can support your new tooth, he’ll order the abutment placement. This abutment is surgically attached to the post and acts as a connector between the implant and the replacement tooth.
According to your specific needs, a custom crown, bridge or dentures are crafted and securely attached to the abutments, fully restoring your smile.

What Patients Say About Their Dental Implants

Alexis P

Although smile lab is new to me the location and my doctor are not. Luis, Kat, and Eleni were all fabulously hospitable and accommodating to all of my administrative needs during my appointment this afternoon. Dr. Parsa Basseri is probably the most meticulous dentist when it comes to having attention to detail! I am grateful to the entire team including everyone not directly mentioned for how you helped to address my front central #8. I’ll be back in two weeks for my permanent veneer. I’m not someone who’s easily satisfied but I’m leaving a happy girl again!

I needed a veneer replaced , Emergency! , and I have to say I was so well taken care of by the entire team. Everyone was so down to earth and pleasant. The Dentist did an amazing job and made sure I was as comfortable as possible. The assistants were very sweet as they ensured I was entertained by a movie and cool tv show recommendations! I highly recommend this place and team of awesome professionals

The facilities are state of the art, the team is warm and welcoming, and (most importantly) I found the quality of care to be exceptional. Dr. Basseri was meticulous, comprehensive, and patient in his approach, focusing on long-term, minimally invasive care. What really stood out to me is his impeccable bedside manner, so thorough and empathetic. My previous clinic was a popular “chain”, and they often tried to sell me expensive services that I didn’t need, but it really feels to me that the team at Smile Lab care about doing things right.

Go to smile lab!!! It is the best dentist experience I’ve ever had. Nervous putting this online because no one can tell I did anything cosmetic, but I can’t help but sing the praises of this place. I recently had a large cosmetic rebuild of my smile and chose Smile Lab to do it. Am over the moon happy with how it came out. My biggest fear was looking like I’d had my ‘teeth done’, but they look so natural that even my closest friends couldn’t tell, until I told them. Their reactions were more like, “wow, your smile is really popping right now” or “you are looking very handsome right now”. In other words, the surgery did exactly what I wanted it to. My smile looks completely natural and beautiful, and 1000x better than it was before. Dr. Abrahimi is a genius at this stuff. Him and the smile lab staff make me feel like superstar every time I come in. He’s also hip to all the cutting edge science in dentistry and is constantly implementing new practices to his regimen. Whether it be for a simple cleaning or a large surgery, go to this place! You will not regret it!

Amazing experience at the Smile lab! Everyone was friendly and super efficient. I went in for a cosmetic consultation for an Enameloplasty concern. Not only was I in and out within 45 minutes! (including consultation and procedure and filling out forms) they gave me EXACTLY what I requested. No pushing to change my opinion for something bigger and more expensive. I personally HATE the dentist and have a very small tolerance for pain and this experience was.... If I may say enjoyable! Thank you again to all the folks at the Smile lab.

Improve Your Smile & Health with Dental Implants

If you’ve lost one or more teeth it is affecting your health.

In addition to the public embarrassment, losing teeth makes it difficult for you to chew solid food. Plus, the more you chew, the weaker your jawbone gets.

Now, you could opt for dentures or bridges as a temporary solution. But then you’ll be restricted to eating only soft or mashed foods, making dental implants the only viable, permanent solution.

However, if you opt for a dental implant, you’ll want to entrust the job to reputable experts in the field because of the procedure’s minimally invasive nature.

Fortunately for you, we here at Smile Lab in Union Square, New York, are well-equipped to offer exceptional dental care to all our patients due to our state-of-the-art medical equipment and supremely experienced dental professionals.

Dr. Cameron Lewis himself has been an oral and maxillofacial surgeon for over a decade, performing dental implants for hundreds of satisfied patients who remain connected with Smile Lab here in Manhattan.

Common Questions About Dental Implants in Manhattan

What are dental implants?

A dental implant is a permanent tooth replacement solution that works by surgically placing a small titanium post into the jawbone — acting as an artificial tooth root. Once the implant fuses with the bone during a natural healing process called osseointegration, a custom-made crown, bridge, or denture is attached on top. The result is a replacement tooth that looks, feels, and functions exactly like a natural tooth. Unlike dentures or bridges, implants are a permanent, long-term solution that also preserves the health and density of your jawbone over time.
The cost of veneers depends on how many teeth are treated and the complexity of your case. At Smile Lab, we offer free consultations so you can get a custom quote with no obligation. Transparent pricing, expert care. Find out more in our article “How much are porcelain veneers in NYC?”
The cost of dental implants in Manhattan typically ranges from $3,000 to $6,000 per implant, depending on the complexity of your case, whether any preparatory procedures like bone grafting are needed, and the type of restoration being placed. Full-mouth implant solutions will vary significantly in cost. At Smile Lab Dentistry, we provide completely transparent pricing during your consultation so there are no surprises — and our team will walk you through all available payment plans and financing options to make your treatment as affordable as possible. Call 332-237-6453 to discuss your options.
The implant procedure itself is performed under local anesthesia — and sedation options are available for patients with dental anxiety — so you should feel little to no pain during the surgery. Most patients report that the discomfort afterward is milder than they expected, typically manageable with over-the-counter pain medication for the first few days. Dr. Cameron Lewis and his team will provide detailed post-operative care instructions to keep you as comfortable as possible throughout your recovery.
With proper care, dental implants can last a lifetime. The titanium post that integrates with your jawbone is designed to be permanent. The crown attached on top typically lasts 15 to 25 years before it may need replacing due to normal wear. Maintaining good oral hygiene, attending regular check-ups at Smile Lab Dentistry, and avoiding habits like grinding your teeth or chewing on hard objects will maximize the lifespan of your implant significantly.
The full dental implant process at Smile Lab Dentistry typically takes between 3 and 6 months from start to finish. After the initial consultation and implant placement, the implant requires a healing period of 2 to 4 months to fully fuse with the jawbone — a process called osseointegration. Once healing is confirmed, the abutment and final custom crown are placed, completing your restoration. While the timeline requires patience, the result is a permanent tooth that looks and functions exactly like the real thing. Dr. Cameron Lewis will give you a precise timeline based on your specific case during your consultation.
Smile Lab Dentistry in Union Square is one of Manhattan’s top-rated destinations for dental implants. Dr. Cameron Lewis — an oral and maxillofacial surgeon with over a decade of specialized implant experience — leads a team that has successfully placed implants for hundreds of patients across New York City. Yes — dental implants are one of the most thoroughly researched and clinically proven procedures in modern dentistry, with success rates consistently above 95%. The titanium used in implants is biocompatible, meaning the body does not reject it. As with any surgical procedure, there are risks — but in the hands of an experienced oral and maxillofacial surgeon like Dr. Cameron Lewis, those risks are minimized significantly. During your consultation, Dr. Lewis will conduct a thorough evaluation of your bone density, gum health, and overall medical history to confirm that implants are the right and safe solution for you specifically.
The three main types of dental implants are single tooth implants, implant-supported bridges for multiple missing teeth, and implant-supported dentures for full arch or full mouth replacement. A single tooth implant replaces one missing tooth with a titanium post and a custom crown. An implant-supported bridge replaces several consecutive missing teeth using implants at either end as anchors. Implant-supported dentures — also called implant dentures — provide a fully permanent, stable solution for patients who are missing all or most of their teeth, replacing the need for traditional removable dentures entirely. During your consultation at Smile Lab Dentistry, Dr. Cameron Lewis will assess your specific situation and recommend the type of implant solution that best fits your needs, your jawbone health, and your goals.
